'Selecting the optimal motion technology for your application: electric…pneumatic?' – Live webinar

11 April 2023

Many experienced designers think they know the motion technology options available but are often surprised by the latest developments!

Although linear motion on machines usually uses pneumatic or electric drives, there are more options than it might initially seem. The latest pneumatic technology now offers features traditionally associated with servo-electric drives. Point-to-point electric drives are becoming more cost-effective and can replace some movements traditionally done by pneumatic cylinders.

With the landscape further complicated by new servo and digital pneumatic technologies, picking the solution with the optimal performance, cost and energy efficiency for your application can be challenging or enlightening.

This webinar will explain the technologies available and use a real machine design example to demonstrate their appropriate use, helping you to achieve an optimal design and, in the worst case, avoid an expensive redesign. It will look at the range of technologies available:

• Traditional pneumatics – point to point
• Servo pneumatics – pneumatic positioning
• Digital pneumatics – controlled pneumatic motion
• End-to-end electric – electric positioning
• Servo electric – interpolated motion

The 45-minute session will conclude with a Q&A session, where attendees can ask questions and get advice.

Target audience: This webinar is ideal for OEM design engineers looking to develop modern, energy-efficient, cost-effective machines using the latest technologies.

Presenter: Josh Roberts has worked his entire career in industrial automation with roles in engineering and business development, focusing on servo drives and control solutions. His main driver is to provide advanced and novel automation solutions to overcome engineering challenges.
