It’s all about automation for Mirka at Advanced Engineering 2023

20 September 2023

A study recently carried out by Deloitte found that over 50 percent of businesses are planning to incorporate the use of AI and automation technologies within their business. To ensure companies have access to the highest quality automated process solutions, Mirka UK will be showcasing and demonstrating the versatile Mirka AIROS at Advanced Engineering on stand T170.

The Mirka AIROS 150NV, which is the smallest AIROS sanding head, is ideal for more confined spaces, detail work, and sanding of small areas. This tool has been designed by the R&D team in Finland to fit most robot arms on the market, as well as being able to connect with Universal Robots collaborative solutions using a special UR installation kit.

To complement the tools on display will be the Mirka Galaxy abrasive range. This abrasive has been designed from the ground up to be used on both soft and hard materials and to provide a cut that is so clean that scratch patterns in finer grits are especially easy to polish out and there are no loose grains left behind in the substrate.

This multi-purpose, film-backed abrasive has a multi-fit hole configuration that utilises optimal hole placement to channel the dust away from the sanding process which, combined with Galaxy’s special coating, helps eradicate clogging, without sacrificing efficient sanding performance.

In addition, its specially mixed blue ceramic grains have been engineered to form abrasive edges that break down during the sanding process and present fresh grain. This allows Galaxy to cut quickly and efficiently from edge to edge, which further increases the lifespan of the abrasive.

The show will also see the debut of the Pro Iridium 1250 compound, the latest addition to Mirka’s polishing line-up, which has been developed for removing scratches from spot sanding. This product gives manufacturers the best of both worlds, meaning users only need to polish once.

Chris Brook, Business Sector Manager of Transport and Industry for Mirka UK, says, “We’re delighted to be back at Advanced Engineering. Since last year’s show, we have seen an increase in the number of businesses moving over to automated processes and investing in robotic sanding solutions.

“We believe we have the breadth of products available to meet this demand. In addition, our team is excited to meet with an engaged audience to understand their needs and requirements and showcase the benefits the Mirka AIROS and Galaxy abrasives will provide users in the short, medium, and long term.

“We are also looking forward to showcasing how the Pro Iridium 1250 compound quickly and efficiently removes defects and imperfections from the surface.”
