National Committee launched to end digital poverty by 2030

11 August 2023

The Digital Poverty Alliance has introduced the National Delivery Committee (NDC), a coalition of UK-based organisations tasked with driving actionable steps outlined in the National Delivery Plan (NDP) and ensuring equal access to digital resources and skills for all.

The NDC aims to provide guidance and counsel on the DPA’s actions going forward, with members committing to specific delivery actions within the NDP, advocating its efforts and collaborating with the DPA to reach key milestones.

Comprising around 30 UK-based organisations including representatives from Ofcom, techUK, UK Finance, Currys, InKind Direct, and the Federation of Small Businesses, the NDC will also grant observer status to national government representatives.

Corporate memberships will also be available to select organisations with the goal of expanding engagement and support for the NDP, permitting those selected to attend quarterly industry forum meetings which will sit alongside the DPA’s National Delivery Committee.

Meetings are set to take place six times a year, once every two months, to discuss any progress or lack of toward achieving their shared goals.

Elizabeth Anderson, Interim CEO at Digital Poverty Alliance commented: “To support our mission of ending digital poverty for all, the NDC has been put together to ensure the delivery of the NDP and provide necessary guidance and information to relevant stakeholders.

“It brings together key organisations who will take actionable steps towards providing the nation with equal access to both digital resources, connectivity and skill, supporting the 11 million people who currently experience digital exclusion.”

“Lacking digital access can affect an individual’s ability to participate in everyday life, from education through to the workplace, all the way into retirement age. As the digital economy develops, more resources and services become accessible online therefore ensuring the UK is digitally connected has never been more important.

“The benefits of this will be felt by all as individuals are offered more opportunities and businesses are presented with more skilled individuals, which will ultimately drive economic growth.”
