Today’s control cabinets increasingly need to provide highly connected networking capability, look to address rising energy costs and have the flexibility to support end user customisation where required. The visibility of real-time operating data to help optimise performance and identify potential problems before they occur is now essential. As a result, components, including power supply units, need to offer an enhanced range of functionality that can satisfy changing demands from industrial users.
The PRO 2 power supply unit
The PRO 2 power supply unit offers several benefits. It includes pioneering communications to aid predictive maintenance, reliable long-term performance in challenging environments, intelligent load management, customised configuration, simple installation via pluggable screwless connectors and energy saving benefits.
Knowledge is power through real-time status visibility
WAGO PRO 2 unit is configured so the most important operating status can be read off the front of the unit, while other valuable data can be retrieved through the controller via the free of charge PC software. PRO 2 can also keep the user informed and provide the real-time status information essential for assessing situation on the go. For data collection and real-time status information, the PRO 2 can be equipped with a choice of dedicated communication modules at any time, allowing selection of the desired protocol for connection to the automation and control level.
The LED bar chart on the front of PRO 2 reliably indicates the current output power, as well as overloads/load reserves. Other LEDs indicate the selected operating mode as well as warnings and errors. Access to essential real-time data can also help drive operating efficiency gains by supporting proactive preventative maintenance programmes.
One solution for application versatility and reliability
With system reliability a key factor for OEMs, Panel Builders and end users, the unrivalled performance lifespan of the unit is worthy of note. With a mean time before failure (MTBF) estimated at one million hours, the low maintenance requirements and reduced frequency of potential call outs can help save cost and resources. It also ensures the end user remains satisfied with power supply reliability levels on an ongoing basis.
The WAGO PRO 2 can also operate successfully across challenging environments, including a surrounding air temperature range of -40 to +70°C. It can also perform well in applications exposed to frequent impacts or vibration. It alleviates the need for individual solutions for different locations and conditions.
The right power and optimised energy consumption
The WAGO PRO 2 will supply power reliably to equipment and protect it at the same time thanks to TopBoost – a function that allows up to 600% output voltage for 15 milliseconds in the event of a downstream short circuit to safely trigger thermomagnetic circuit breakers. In addition, PowerBoost – with 150% of the output power for up to five seconds – allows capacitors to be charged more quickly, and inductive loads are switched reliably. Finally, the WAGO PRO 2 can be used as a single-channel electronic circuit breaker and eliminates the need for further external circuit breakers to protect equipment.
Providing up to 96.3% efficiency, the PRO 2 delivers lower energy consumption and carbon emission reduction benefits. Heat loss decrease also contributes to less heat in the control cabinet helping with ventilation design constraints.
