Omron adds Q2V Compact Drive to the Q2 family of frequency inverters

23 October 2019

The new Q2V compact drive from Omron offers stress-free motor control with just one drive for any kind of motor, from induction (IM) to permanent magnet (PM) and synchronous reluctance (SynRM) motors.

An inverter is needed to control the frequency of power supplied to an AC (alternating current) motor to control the rotation speed and acceleration in pumps, fans and other industrial machinery. The Q2V inverters are extremely easy to install, and thanks to their rugged design ensure 10 years of maintenance-free operation.

Easy installation and setup

The Q2V is designed for convenient commissioning: All inputs and outputs come with screwless terminals and the hardware is simplified thanks to a built-in EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) filter and STO (Safety Torque Off) function, as well as a braking transistor. The benefit here is cost-effectiveness due to less wiring effort. An intelligent application set-up guides users through the parameter settings.

Application versatility

In addition to handling various types of AC motors, the Q2V comes with a dual rating, including the heavy duty and normal duty options. This results in application flexibility, enabling the same inverter model to drive motors with different ratings depending on the load characteristics. For additional versatility, users can customise the drive to their specific requirements with application wizards, and the intelligent application set-up guides them through the parameter settings. The graphic development tools allow users to develop their own programs and maintain the know-how inhouse.

Reducing machine downtime

The rugged Q2V is protected from dust and humidity and is designed for 10 years of operation in temperatures up to 50 °C without maintenance. Thanks to data acquisition at device level, users can prevent potential failures and avoid unplanned downtime. The Q2V can trace and record data to a local SD card or provide the data to IT systems via Omron NX/NJ controllers.

Improving energy efficiency

Manufacturers need to ensure energy efficiency in all components in their processes. Thanks to special motor control methods, such as the EZ Vector for pumps and fans, The Q2V can drive efficient motors in the most efficient way. Its advanced motor control algorithms increase efficiency by up to 6% for asynchronous motors and up to 2% for permanent magnet motors, compared to conventional drives. The Q2V comes with additional dedicated energy-saving functions for applications where the loads have variable or reduced torque characteristics. These will automatically optimise energy savings, totalling in up to 50% energy saving.

“With over 10 Million inverters installed, Omron has a proven track record in the area. With the new Q2V, manufacturers, integrators and machine builders can guarantee a smooth installation and trouble-free operation,” says Alberto Fuentes, European Drive Product Marketing Manager. “It contributes to creating an integrated, intelligent and interactive manufacturing site, which is key to materialising Omron’s "innovative-Automation" concept together with our customers.”
