Innovation truck welcomed by Mayor in Nuneaton

RS Components showcased some of the latest technology used in engineering today when it rolled its innovation truck, Titan II, into Nuneaton.
The event was attended by The Worshipful The Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth, Councilor Chris Watkins, who experienced the technology on the 35-tonne truck, along with other local visitors.
As well as giving attendees the opportunity to see Titan II – which offers technologies used in industry today including RS’ DesignSpark platform, Raspberry Pi, 3D printing, robotics, IoT, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) – the RS Local Nuneaton branch, on Walsingham Drive, welcomed visitors at this special event. It marked the first of a quarterly series, which will see RS Components engage with the community in which it operates, raising awareness of STEM subjects and offering expertise to key industries in the area.
‘Behind-the-scenes’ operational warehouse tours were also offered, highlighting the impressive set-up – which offers a one hour order turnaround – and further demonstrating some of the latest technology being used.
Paul Horgan, RS Local manager in Nuneaton, said: “We were delighted to welcome local people, suppliers and students into our Local branch and onto Titan II, to help educate and inspire people about technology, and young people in particular about a career in engineering. We were also able to demonstrate how we use some of this technology as a business in our warehouse, to enable our customers to access a wide breadth of products, technical know-how in our RS Local branch, and speedy delivery.
“The day was a huge success, with prizes scooped by visitors, including final round Super Bike tickets for Brands Hatch. We’d like to thank our suppliers who attended and in particular, GR Motosport, who brought a superbike with them, which was very popular among visitors. The demonstrations we held of the latest applications of credit card-sized computer Raspberry Pi also went down well. We are already looking forward to our next event.”
The Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth, Councilor Chris Watkins attended with his wife, Mayoress Collette Watkins. Councilor Watkins said: “I was amazed at the technology showcased on Titan II and delighted to have the opportunity to experience it for myself. Technology and engineering pose some very exciting career opportunities for young people today, and the work RS is doing in showcasing this technology in such an engaging way is excellent, particularly given the low STEM subject uptake. Visitors on the day seemed to really enjoy learning about and engaging with this technology, and I commend RS for organising this special event.”
