Secure bus communication even for hanging applications

igus introduces the world’s first high-tensile Profinet bus cable for vertical applications, such as storage and retrieval equipment.
The chainflex CFSPECIAL.182.060 bus cable integrates special strain relief elements in the PUR outer jacket, which protects the sensitive bus elements from the high tensile forces.
Bus signals, such as Profinet, are transmitted via special electrically matched bus cables, which must meet clearly defined electrical parameters in order to ensure correct data transmission. The cross sections of these cables are typically very small as communication does not require large levels of current.
“The advantage of this is that bus cables can be very thin,” says Justin Leonard, the-chain director, igus. “However, these small and delicate structures have the disadvantage that the mechanical durability of the bus cable reaches its limits very quickly in hanging applications, depending on the cable length. This is because the maximum tensile forces of the cable can be exceeded very quickly just under its own weight.”
The integrated strain relief elements of the CFSPECIAL.182.060 cable allows it to be used for hanging applications of 100 metres and more, and can carry its own weight of up to 50kg. As a result, new modern storage and retrieval equipment can now rely on bus communication.
The new CFSPECIAL.182.060 is shielded and features an abrasion-resistant PUR outer jacket with integrated strain relief fibres. The cable is resistant to oil and coolant, as well as to hydrolysis and microbes. The cable is also very impact-resistant and free of PVC and halogen. Like all igus cables, the CFSPECIAL.182.060 has also been tested in its own test laboratory and is backed by a 36-month lifetime guarantee.
