Compact and high-performance industrial Ethernet interface from Hirose

17 January 2018

RS Components announced availability of the ix industrial range from Hirose, which sets a higher standard for Ethernet interfaces and responds to future challenges posed by Industry 4.0 and the IIoT.

There has been recognition that device interfaces and system cables need to be smaller, more powerful and even more robust. Hirose has developed this new technology to deliver this robust miniature Ethernet interface, which has the potential to replace the conventional RJ45 connection. The units have been designed particularly for use in a variety of fields and applications including security systems, factory automation such as machinery and robotics, communications and data networks, and various transportation applications.

The units take up 70 percent less space than the standard RJ45 and enable parallel 11mm-pitch mounting, which is ideal for daisy-chaining applications and offers space-saving cabling for applications with miniaturised requirements. The devices are also much safer because the two snap-in metal hooks ensure that the receptacle and connector are more securely connected. Robustness is provided via the use of five through-hole shield contacts, which offer maximum stability on the PCB, increasing locking strength and providing durable cable connection of the plug. The robust structure also supports strong resistance to vibration and shock, enabling 5000 mating cycles.

The range is designed to provide Cat 6A performance for up to 10 Gbps Ethernet data transmission and is standardised to IEC/PAS61076-3-124. Data transmission is safe, even in EMC-critical applications, due to the continuous 360° shield design, which guarantees high immunity from interference.

The Hirose ix Industrial range of Ethernet interface connectors is now shipping from RS in the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
